I’ve been seeing many people saying on social media that 2016 was the worst year and it has to end quickly. While I agree that it was not the easy year for the world, I consider myself extremely lucky because this was probably my best year so far. I know, I probably said the same thing at the end of 2015 but hey, isn’t it cool when you feel like every new year was the best one in your life?
In 2016 many of my dreams finally came true and left me wondering how did it even happen? Is this a real life?
Portugal was the country that I wanted to see in Europe more than others and it didn’t disappoint me. From wonderful nature to great food and amazing people, I guess I won’t stop saying how great the country is and how everyone should visit. I am already looking forward to coming back again. Maybe in 2017, who knows.
After I saw the sea for the first time last year, it was time to see the ocean. I was sure I had to go far away for it, but in fact, it happened in Portugal. One day we went to see Cabo da Roca – the westernmost point of continental Europe and that is where I saw ocean for the first time.
The story behind this dream goes something like this: I saw pictures from this place many years ago and couldn’t believe it was a real place. That time I was living in Ukraine and traveling didn’t seem possible soon. I didn’t even try to find out where this place was located. Then this year I went to Venice without much planning what to do there only to hear that Burano is one of the islands!
This story is similar to Burano. I saw this photo few times but never thought that I might see it in reality. But then last autumn I realized that it is located in Switzerland, not far from Zurich. We went on a day trip one day and it was the moment when I understood that nothing is impossible.
I remember a few years ago my friend told me I should start a blog. That time I was living in Ukraine and I thought my life was too boring to write about. So I answered that I would start a blog after I start traveling and will have some interesting stories to tell. Of course, I forgot about that conversation but then suddenly this year it came to my mind again. I have been not very active this year, but I promise to dedicate more time to my baby blog in 2017.
Strange or not, but the fact that I got visa excites me more than the fact that I might be going to the US soon. For those of you who don’t know, I’m from Ukraine. Ukrainian passport is not the most powerful passports in the world and we need a visa to go almost everywhere. There are some countries like the UK, the US, Australia whose visas are especially difficult to get. I was really stressed for a few weeks after completing an online form and before going to interview in Munich and didn’t believe my chances were good. Well, nothing is impossible 🙂
I always wanted to learn French and this was rather a plan than a dream that seemed to never be fulfilled. When this year I moved closer to the French border, I thought ” this is a chance!” If I don’t do it now, I will probably never do it in the future. To be honest, learning process didn’t go so well and I am close to giving up this idea. But anyway, I am happy that I tried.
I remember imagining that one day I will have my own bike and will be using it on daily basis. When I moved to the smaller German city this autumn bike was rather a necessity than just a dream. I got my first own bike and have been using it happily ever since.
Did some of your dreams come true in 2016?
