“Year in review” type of posts are one of my favorite to write. Nothing can compare to the motivation boost I get from looking back and realizing how much I was able to accomplish. It also helps me at times when I feel depressed or start complaining about life. One look at the past year highlights and I am back on track feeling happy and grateful for the life I have. Here are some of the great things that happened to me in 2017:
First trip to the USA
Last year in the review of 2016 I wrote that getting a US visa was one of the highlights that year. In 2017 I was lucky to finally use this visa for my first trip to the US. To be honest, US has never been high on my list, but this trip changed everything. From the country that I never dreamed of visiting it turned into a country that I could imagine living in. In 2018 I hope to go the US again, hopefully to some warm state this time.
I didn’t stop blogging
I am so happy about this one. Even if I didn’t write so many posts this year, I am glad that I did a few at least. I read once that 95% of people quit their blogs after one year. It’s been around 1,5 years for me know. And I already paid for the next year of blog hosting. No plans to stop writing anytime soon 🙂
Travelling with my mother
My mother was abroad only one time more than 20 years ago. And it was technically not even abroad because Ukraine and Russia were both parts of the USSR at that time. Ever since I moved to Germany and started traveling regularly, I dreamt that my mother also had a chance to travel abroad. In 2017 my dream came true not even one, but two times. We started the year with a trip to Poland. And before I was about to move out from Germany, my mother visited me and we traveled together for the second time.
A trip to India
Another awesome traveling experience for me this year was a trip to India. I attempted to write a post about my trip a few times but gave up at the end. India is so different from any other country that I visited before, I simply didn’t know where to start describing my experience. I guess I need to go there one more time.
Moved back to Ukraine and started teaching online
A decision to move back to Ukraine didn’t come easily to me. I would prefer to stay in Germany but moving home was the only possibility to start a new job that I wanted to try for such a long time. Ever since I heard about teaching languages online, I kept coming back to this idea every time when I was thinking about my future. I wanted to try it out for so long and now, after my contract in Germany finished, it was a perfect moment to do it. It’s been 3 months since I started teaching German online. It is too early to say if this is my calling and I am going to keep doing it for a long time, but right now I am happy with what I am doing.
German Word Of The Day
About a year ago I created a German Word Of the Day account on Instagram. The idea was simple – to post one German word every day. I don’t remember exactly why I did it. I guess I was just bored and wanted to start some new project. Staying consistent with posting on Instagram turned out to be not so easy but it was worth it. The account grew to over 3000 followers by now and messages that I’m getting from people saying how it helps them to improve their German only motivate me to keep working.
This was my short review of 2017. I am already looking forward to 2018. Something tells me that it is going to be even better.
