If you are planning a visit to Switzerland and did a little research of things to do here, then you probably heard of Jungfraujoch already. If you don’t know what Jungfraujoch is, give me high-five. I’ve never heard of it until my first trip to Switzerland. Because when you are in Switzerland as a tourist, it is impossible not to hear about the Jungfraujoch. The advertisement of the Top of Europe experience is everywhere. So you get curious, what exactly is a Jungfraujoch? Jungfraujoch is the highest railway station in Europe at 3454 m above sea level. It is also one of the most popular and expensive tourist attractions in Switzerland. Because of the price, I didn’t want to go there for a long time but finally gave it a try this August. Was it worth the money? You can read my Jungfraujoch experience review at the end of the post. But first I want to share some tips how to prepare for the trip to Jungfraujoch and the best things you can do there.
For most first-time visitors in Switzerland Bern is usually not the top choice for a day trip. I totally understand it. In the country with such beautiful nature, why should you waste your precious vacation time to visit cities? Bern wasn’t also on my radar for a long time. I knew it was a Swiss capital but I didn’t know what was interesting to see and do in Bern. Finally, when researching for day trips to take from Zurich I googled the photos of Bern and decided that it was time to go there. And the only thing I regret is that I waited so long.
There are lots of things to do in Bern and the area around and you can easily stay 2-3 days here. But even if your time is limited, one day is enough to get an idea of the city. Bern is easy to reach by train or car from almost every part of Switzerland. If you travel by car, the day trip from France and Germany is also possible. Here are some ideas what to do in Bern if you only got one day to explore the city. And the best part? Most of them are free!
There are so many great things to say about Switzerland. Gorgeous mountain landscapes, world-famous cheese and chocolate usually come first but if you look at the map you will notice that Switzerland also has one of the best possible locations a country can have. Just look how perfectly it is located in the middle of Europe. Thanks to the expanded railway network it is easy to travel across the Switzerland and to the neighbor countries even if you have only one day for a trip. A car is also a good way to travel around but buses are much less common in Switzerland for a long distance travel, so possibilities of day trips by bus are quite limited in Switzerland.
When I was already about to start thinking that I am running out of ideas for one-day trips, my boyfriend suggested going to Aescher-Wildkirchli Berggasthaus. I remember seeing the photo of this place a long time ago but I didn’t even consider putting it on my bucket list. That time I was living in Ukraine and Switzerland seemed so far away. This is another opportunity to say – “dreams come true” and this is how mine came true last weekend.
