Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland but it is relatively small compared to many other European cities. The main tourist attractions are located in the city center in the walkable distance within each other. One day in Zurich is not enough to see everything, but it is definitely enough time to see the main highlights. If you arrive in Zurich by plane, it takes just 10 minutes to reach the main Zurich train station from Zurich airport. So you can even explore the city on a long layover in Zurich.
Switzerland
In a previous post, I wrote about 25 one day trip ideas from Zurich. That list includes day trips from Zurich in Switzerland and to neighboring countries. This is a more in-depth article about the day trips from Zurich to Germany. Some of these trips are easier to do by car, but many of them are also doable by bus and train.
Lausanne is one place in Switzerland that I can’t recommend enough to visit. I feel like it is some sort of a hidden gem. Not so many international tourists visit Lausanne, compared to other places in Switzerland and not many people even heard about this city. To be honest, I also didn’t know much about Lausanne before my first trip to Switzerland and didn’t see a reason to travel there. But as for now, I’ve been to this city a couple of times and can’t wait to go there again. This is why recommend everyone to include Lausanne when planning a trip itinerary for Switzerland.

If you are planning a trip to Switzerland and did a little research of things to do here, then you’ve probably heard of Jungfraujoch already. If you don’t know what Jungfraujoch is, give me high-five. I’ve never heard about it until my first trip to Switzerland. Because when you are in Switzerland as a tourist, it is impossible not to hear about the Jungfraujoch. The advertisement of the Top of Europe experience is everywhere. But what exactly is a Jungfraujoch?
Jungfraujoch is the highest railway station in Europe at 3454 m above sea level. It is also one of the most popular and expensive tourist attractions in Switzerland. But first I want to share some tips on how to prepare for the trip and the best things you can do in Jungfraujoch.
For most first-time visitors in Switzerland Bern is usually not the top choice for a day trip. I totally understand it. In the country famous for its beautiful nature, why should you waste your precious vacation time to visit cities? That’s exactly the reason why Bern wasn’t on my bucket list as well. But one time when I was looking for day trips to take from Zurich I googled the photos of Bern and decided that it was time to go there. And the city didn’t disappoint me. In fact, I managed to come back three times already and will definitely visit again in the future.
