It’s time for another travel bucket list! When you think of traveling in Europe, islands might be not the first thing that comes to your mind. However, there are many beautiful and unique European islands to add to your travel bucket list. Today I am sharing the list of islands I would like to visit in Europe.
1. Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands are one of my dream destinations. On the official tourism website, Faroe islands are called “Europe’s best-kept secret”. It took me as little as watching a few drone videos to put Faroe islands on my bucket list. The only thing that discourages me from going there yet is that it seems like a place where you can’t do much without a car. So Faroe islands are also on my other list of “places I’m going to visit as soon as I get a driving license”.
2. Iceland
Well, I guess I don’t even need to convince anyone that Iceland is an amazing place to visit. But again, I need to get a driving license first to be able to drive around the island, because all the natural sights are not accessible by public transport.
3. Greenland
What makes Greenland especially exciting for me is how little I know about this place. It must be one of those places where even the everyday life is completely different from what we are used to. Just imagine, there are no roads between the towns and you can only travel by ship or airplane. Due to its uniqueness, this might be also the most expensive island to visit on this list.
5. Azores islands
Portugal is one of my favorite countries, and Azores islands are the part of Portugal that I want to discover soon. There are many popular hiking trails on the islands but, like many other islands, it is difficult to get around without a car.
6. Madeira
Madeira is another Portuguese island I would like to visit. This is not a traditional beach destination, but it is well known for hiking trails, culture, food and good weather all year round. Sounds like a perfect place to me.
7. Canary islands
The Canary Islands are a well-known and popular destination for European tourists. I imagine going there in winter to enjoy some sun while it is grey and cold in Northern Europe. Unlike Madeira, these Spanish islands are perfect if you are like to lay on the beach all day.
8. Corsica
I mentioned Corsica in another post about Hindi music videos, because it was actually a movie that made me interested in this island.
9. Malta
Malta is another island I am planning to visit during the winter. It is a very popular destination and the official tourism website claims that the public buses serve the main tourist areas. Also, English is the official language here. So Malta is likely to be one of the first islands to cross from this list.
10. Sardinia and Sicily
Sardinia and Sicily are two Italian islands that are often compared, so I would like to visit both in one trip to see which one I would like better. I’ve been to Sardinia before, but it was not a high season so it was too cold to swim. I hope to come in summer next time to enjoy the sea and beaches, which are known to be some of the best in the world.
11. Greece islands
Santorini, Crete, Rhodes, Mykonos… There are so many Greece islands and each of them seems to be unique. I hope to visit at least a few of them to be able to compare.
